Abell 2151 – Hercules Galaxy Cluster

Abell 2151, the Hercules galaxy cluster, contains a few hundred galaxies about 500 million light years away from us. This cluster is itself part of a “supercluster” organized like a filament of galaxies. These are the big structures of the universe which is not as uniform as you might think.

Personally, this galaxy cluster stimulates me to the highest point by showing me vividly the immensity of the universe. Almost every bright spot in this photo is a galaxy that contains tens of billions of stars. And yet, this photo doesn’t even cover the size of your thumb stretched out in front of you at the end of your arm.
