NGC 7479 – The Superman Galaxy

Description:

NGC 7479 is a barred spiral galaxy located about 105 million l.y. from Earth in the constellation Pegasus. It is almost the same size as our Milky Way. Interestingly, it is undergoing  starburst activity not only on the nucleus and the outer arms, but also across the bar of the galaxy, where most of the stars were formed in the last 100 million years which is very recent in the  astronomical domain.

The nickname Superman Galaxy is related to its prominent S-shaped spiral arms.
