Leo Triplet
Description:
The Leo Triplet is a group of galaxies located approximately 35 million light-years from Earth in the constellation Leo. In this image, on the left, we see NGC 3628, also known as the Hamburger Galaxy, along with a jet of matter likely resulting from gravitational interaction with the other two galaxies. The one on the upper right is M65. The one further down on the right is M66, a barred spiral galaxy exhibiting intense star formation activity, giving it a bluish hue.
In the following image, the wide-field version shows all the other galaxies also found in this region of the sky.
