Comet C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan-ATLAS)

Description:

Comet C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan-ATLAS) put on a beautiful show for those who knew where to look in the sky to see it. Except for a few days between October 12 and 18, it had to be located with binoculars before it could be seen with the naked eye. Several beautiful photos flooded the media during this period, adding to the frustration of those who could not see it.

It will return in 80,000 years, or may be not, depending on whether it is subject to gravitational influences during its long journey around the sun.

Technical details:

The first 2 photos were taken with a Canon EOS 6D Mark II camera and a Samyang 135mm lens.

The first one is from a single exposure of 4 seconds at ISO 1600

The second one is from a stack of 19 exposures of 5 seconds at ISO 1600.

The 3rd photo was taken with a William Optics GT81 refractor with field flattener (f/4.7), an iOptron CEM26EC mount, and a ZWO ASI 2600MC Pro camera. A stack of 45 exposures of 60 seconds and processing with the PixInsight software to improve the contrast.
