The Milky Way in Sagittarius

Description:

The region of the Milky Way which is near the center of our galaxy is full of celestial objects that can be observed well with a small telescope or a good pair of binoculars. However, we need a very dark sky. This was the case during our stay in Notre-Dame-des-Bois, in the region of the Mont-Mégantic observatory.

In this photo taken with a 105mm telephoto lens, we can clearly see the Lagoon nebula (in pink) and the Trifid nebula a little higher. The region is also dotted with dark nebulae which are clumps of dust obscuring the starlight behind them.
