Comet C/2025 A6 (Lemmon)
Description:
Comet C/2025 A6 (Lemmon) visited us in October 2025 during its 1350-year journey around the Sun.
For us in the Northern Hemisphere, it never rose very high above the horizon when it was close enough to be clearly observed. Binoculars were necessary to see it clearly, but photographs were able to reveal it well.
Technical details:
The first image was taken with an 81mm William Optics telescope and a ZWO ASI 2600MC camera. The bluish ion tail, made of CO+ pushed by the solar wind, is clearly visible, as is the yellowish dust tail, and the nucleus, which is green due to the presence of diatomic carbon (C2).
The second image was taken with a larger telescope, a Celestron Edge HD14, and a ZWO ASI 2600MM camera equipped with Baader LRGB filters. This close-up allows us to see the structure at the base of the tail, but due to the narrow field of view, the rest of the long tail is not visible.
The third image was taken with a Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra cell phone on a tripod and combined with another image taken with a William Optics GT81 telescope for improved results. The two images were superimposed, and their transparency was adjusted.
